….Says he would consolidate on his predecessors achievements

The president and commander in chief of Armed forces, Federal Republicof Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari has officially, installed His Royal Highness, Mai Martaba Sarkin Kano, Muhammed Sanusi the ll the 9th Chancellor of the University of Benin, Edo State.

The installation ceremony which was held on the same day the 41st Convocation and 45th Founders Day of the University, took place at the Akin Dekom Main Auditorium , Ugbowo Campus Benin City.

In  a speech delivered  by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu who represented President Mohammadu  Buhari disclosed that by the power conferred on him by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and visitor to the university, he now have the power to officially install him as the 9th-Chancellor of the University.

President Buhari however congratulated the new Chancellor on his appointment while charging him to use his vast connections to take the institution to the pinnacle ; stressing that, leadership of the Nigeria universities must braze up to ensure that public funds are judiciously used while urging them to desist from any act that would be inimical to the positive agent of change.

Briefly after his installation, HRH, Muhammadu Sanusi, the Mai Martaba, Sarkin of Kano State promised to consolidate on the philosophy of his predecessors in the onerous task in achieving a global standard for the institution.

His words: “I bring you warm greetings from all of us in Kano. Benin was always city of hope. As i drove round the university this morning, i saw huge infrastructural developments. My appointment as a chancellor represent another milestone in my life and am proud to be Chancellor today. My friends tells me that i left the university but the university never left me. As the ninth chancellor of this great university,i promise to perform my duties faithfully and consolidate on the achievements of my predecessors. I therefore, charge the graduands with confidence and focus to contributes their quota to the developmental agenda of  president Buhari.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faraday Orumwense stated that he was gratified by the 41st convocation installation ceremony of HRH Sanusi and the 45th founders day; adding that, in less than a year of his stewardship, his administration has witnessed a massive improvement on his predecessors legacies which further ensure peace and tranquillity on campus, Staff and Students welfare, Staff promotion as well as upgrading and maintenance of the school facilities amongst others.

Prof. Orumwense however,noted that apart from the installation of the Chancellor, the University would also honour two of its eminent personalities, Mr Solomon Arase, the Inspector General of Police, and prof. Osato Osgie, a renowned gynecologist.

In attendance were notable personalities that cut across traditional rulers, Federal and State lawmakers, Governors and chieftains of industries.
