A security expert, Mr Shola Mese, has said that the EndSARS protest taking place across the country will not solve the issue of police brutality.

Mese, Managing Director, Focus Guard Security, a security outfit in Warri, Delta State, said that the protest was just a diversionary tactics from the main issues bedeviling the country.

He said the protest across the country was uncalled for stressing that the people should be fighting for the total reformation of the entire police system.

He said, “Proscribing SARS will not solve the issue. Will it stop the police harassment. All I expected them to do is to make sure that the purpose for which that department was created is fully utilized.

“As far as I am concerned, SARS is not the issue that we are facing in this country. What they are doing today about this end SARS, to me is a distraction.

“Proscribing SARS is like proscribing the mobile police because they are the one that metamorphosed into SARS.

“If you say SARS is stopping people and looking at their phones and brutalizing them, what makes you believe that they will do that when you go to the police station? Who is police and who is SARS. It might interest you to know that some policemen prefer to be drafted to SARS.

“What I expected them to do is to be more civil in their attitude towards the people.

“People are saying police is bad and all of that, but I can tell you that the police is good. If you say police is bad, the next time you have a problem don’t go to the police.

“What the police need is proper reform. Their welfare should be well taken care of. When you take care of their welfare they will not behave the way they are behaving today.”
