Panic has gripped Delta State as a patient at the Eku Government Baptist Hospital in Ethiope East Local Government Area was allegedly feared dead from the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

According to sources, the late victim, a woman, was reportedly brought from Port-Harcourt where the first case of the disease was initially recorded in the southern part of the country by her family members before she eventually died at the hospital.

It was gathered that the victim died at the Eku Baptist Government Hospital, Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

It was also learnt that the development created an atmosphere of panic among villagers in Eku and other neighbouring communities.

It is not true – Ogeah

Meanwhile, the Delta state Government has assured Deltans that there was no cause for alarm, stressing that there was no case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the state.

It assured the general public that the earlier reported case of a woman who died at the Eku Baptist Government Hospital was not a case of Ebola.

According to the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chike Ogeah who spoke to our reporter on phone, the woman died of diabetes and not of Ebola.

He said; “The woman who died Eku Baptist Government Hospital did not die from Ebola Virus Disease. She died from diabetes. Report reaching us said she took water and salt solution which aggravated the diabetes. So I want to assure you that she did not die from EVD. I want to use this opportunity to assure Deltans that there is no cause for alarm.”
