The Delta State Police Command has gunned down one armed robbery suspect and arrested two others who were involved in a robbery operation at Robert Allory Street, Uloho Avenue in Ughelli South Local Government Area Of the state.

According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Celestina Kalu, the armed robbery suspect was gunned down in a gun battle with the police.

She said: “On 21/12/2015 at about 1920hrs, the DPO ‘A’ Division Ughelli received information about a robbery operation at Robert Allory Street, Uloho Avenue Ughelli. Based on the information patrol team swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.”

Kalu added that “n the process, one of the bandits was gunned down while two others, one Isaac Aghofne ‘m’ aged 22yrs of No. 25 Robert Allory street and Innocent Ejeba ‘m’, 19yrs of Ememukhowane village were arrested.”

She said items recovered from them included two double barrel cut to size guns, one locally made pistol, four expended two live cartridges and some handsets.

Meanwhile, she said investigation is in progress to track down the remaining fleeing suspects.

In a similar development, the Delta State image maker added that a patrol team from ‘B’ Division, Ughelli recovered a snatched vehicle from suspected armed robbers.

She said: “On 22/12/2015, at about 1016hrs one Mrs. Ikelegbe Uwomano of Ekeredjebor community reported at ‘B’ Division Ughelli that on the same date at about 1000hrs, while she was driving out of her compound in her husband’s Volkswagen car with Reg. No.FST 773 CB, two armed men accosted her and snatched the said car from her on gun point. Items inside the snatched car were two Nokia phones, First Bank ATM card, PPEB Asaba identity card and N2000.00 cash.

“Sequel to the report patrol teams swung into action and pursued the miscreants to Iyede where hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush.

“Meanwhile, the vehicle has been recovered while efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals are ongoing.”

Another two armed robbery suspects were also arrested by a team of Quick Respond Squad at ECO Bank, Warri while they were trying to dispossessed a bank customer of his money.

“On 22/12/2015 at about 1330hrs a combined team of QRS operatives Warri and 39 PMF Osogbo personnel on internal security at ECO Bank area Warri arrested a suspected armed robber while attempting to dispossess a bank customer of his money.

“Items recovered on the spot from the criminal included one cut to size locally made gun. Further search on the scene led to the recovery of another cut to size double barrel gun and ten (10) live cartridges,” she stated.

She added that investigation into the matter is ongoing.
