DELTA EMERGES WINNER 5TH NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES

Team Delta has emerged winners of the fifth edition of the National Youth Games garnering forty one (41)gold, thirty two (32)silver and thirty (30)one bronze medals.

Team Delta which had won the previous editions also smashed the medals record at the games after surpassing the twenty seven gold medals it had when it won the fourth edition.

Team Lagos finished a distant second after picking twenty two (22) gold, thirty six (36)silver and fourteen (14)bronze medals. Team Lagos which had finished second at last years edition with twenty four gold medals had initially been touted to unseat Team Delta at this years edition.

Team Bayelsa which finished third last year also finished third this year after picking seventeen (17) gold, six (6)silver and twenty two (22)bronze medals with Team Akwa Ibom placing fourth after claiming fifteen (15) gold, twelve (12) silver and thirteen (13)bronze medals.

Team Edo finished fifth on the medals table picking thirteen (13) gold, seven silver (7)and ten (10) bronze medals with Team Ogun placing sixth collecting nine (9)gold, six(6) silver and seventeen (17)bronze medals followed by Team Ondo which eight (8)gold, nine (9)silver and ten(10) bronze medals.

Team Oyo finished in eighth position picking seven (7) gold,seventeen (17) silver and thirteen (13) bronze medals followed by Team FCT garnering seven (7) gold, five (5) silver and thirteen (13) bronze medals and Team Plateau placed tenth position after picking seven (7) gold, four (4) silver and five (5)bronze medals.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abdulrazak Abdulrahman, Governor of Kwara State expressed appreciation to all the States for participating, he assured that next years edition will be better.

Also speaking, Akin Dare, Minister for Sports Mr Akin Dare who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry said that the competition had produced future athletes for the nation, he promised that the Ministry will continue to invest in the products of the games.

In his speech, Chief Tonobok Okowa, Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission commended the athletes for doing Delta State proud.
