The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has warned politicians in the state not to overheat the polity in their effort to seek political offices, advising those in his cabinet who want to campaign for elective positions to leave his cabinet and pursue their dreams.

The Governor who stated this while Addressing a press conference to kick-start the Democracy Day programme of activities in Asaba, Wednesday, stated that all aspirants for political offices were free to pursue their consultations and ambition peacefully and should avoid actions capable of causing breach of the peace in the state.

The Governor also called on politicians not to incite the people while they were pursuing their political dreams, warning that those politicians who  are accumulating arms just to cause destruction during the elections may not have the opportunity of using them in the state.

Governor Uduaghan said; “, “We are not against anyone’s ambition. What we are against is anybody overheating the system.  A life lost in your attempt to get a position is a life that cannot be replaced. Don’t incite people either by publication or action. Don’t accumulate weapons because, you may not have opportunity to use them.

“If you are in my cabinet and you want to campaign for elective position, you are free to leave my cabinet. My responsibility is to guide the transition process in a very peaceful manner so that no life is lost. And those who are going to vote for their candidates should do that without threat of any kind.”

Governor Uduaghan stressed that elections were not meant for those who go about killing people all in the name of politics, saying that he will ensure that the safety of lives and property will be his top priority.

On the Ogborodo crisis, location of the EPZ project, Governor Uduaghan said he had not placed any embargo on politician who want to go about doing consultations, noting that anybody who wants to campaign should go about it peacefully.

He added that he does not want to comment on the crisis going on at Ogborodo, stressing that his silence on the matter was for the interest of the community and the whole world.

On the upcoming local government election in the state, Governor Uduaghan also urged all those were aspiring for elective positions do so peacefully, saying that Delta State is a peaceful state and that he will want all the politicians to maintain the existing peace.
