The youth wing of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has flagged off it’s Coronavirus awareness campaign by distributing hand sanitizers to market women across Delta Central Senatorial district.

President of the UPU Youth wing, Mr Efemena Umukoro who kicked off the campaign from Abraka town to Orogun and Agarha-Otor, told news men during the flag off that the gesture was his own little way of contributing to the fight against COVID19.

He charged the people to maintain social distancing, personal physical hygiene as well as always wash and sanitize their hands in order to stop spread of the disease. He appealed to the people to obey federal and state governments stay at home directive starting from 1st of April, noting that the principle is for the overall good of all Nigerians.

He urged all Urhobo leaders in the state to come out and support the fight against Coronavirus saying that the Coronavirus pandemic needed the inputs of all well meaning individuals in the state to contain it.

Umukoro said, “As Urhobo people we must stay alive to protect our cultural heritage. The Coronavirus pandemic has overwhelmed the world. So, as the President of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU youth wing) I decided to share hand sanitizers to our people who cannot afford to buy them.

“We are not only giving them hand sanitizers but we are also telling them how to stay safe while the the pandemic last. We are telling our people to listen to the advice of the NCDC And wash their hands regularly.

“We also want to call on the government to come to the aid of our people because the lockdown is going to affect them financially. As the President of the youth wing of UPU, I am doing this with the little money that I have.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on all Urhobo leaders to come out and support our people during this trying times. It’s not only when there is election that they will come out to share rice to the people. Now is the time to act.”
