The second edition of the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA) which was held last Thursday at the Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa has put smiles on best local acts in the state.

The awards which came in different categories to encourage media practitioners in the state was also extended to both musical and comedy icons in Bayelsa.

AD, who is one of Bayelsa’s finest in the music industry, was awarded for his performance as the best artiste of the year 2013, while MC Aproko received the best comedian award.

AD noted that his fans should expect a lot more from him this year as the award will spur him to do more. He also advised upcoming artistes in the state not to neglect promoting their songs in the state, that it was a very good thing to be known in your own locale.

He noted that though the attendance was poor, he hopes to see the whole arena filled up when the BMA will be hosted next year, while appreciating the organisers of the programme.

The host of the BMA, Mr. Victor Binawari, has earlier stated that the event was organized to encouraged and bring out the best from all those in the journalism profession.

He also said that those who did not have the opportunity to win the award in the various categories should not be discouraged as they might have the opportunity to win next time.

This year’s BMA lacked the presence of top government personalities as only few were present, although the publicity and invitations came early.

Also awarded for his excellent service was the leader of the house of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpe.
