Mr Ifiokabasi Udo, a safety expert cum author has advocated for the introduction of “Safety Guide” into the school curriculum.

Mr Udo made the call while unveiling his textbook titled: “Practical Safety Guide for Everyone” in Warri.

The safety professional said that this development would help to inculcate into the young ones the rudiments of safety.

He disclosef that he had trained over 3000 school children drawn from various schools in Warri and environs on fire safety and prevention at no financial cost.

According to Mr. Udo, “there is need for the Federal Government to introduce safety guide into the school curriculum so that our children can be exposed to the safety rules while still in school.”

Mr. Udo added, “individuals can also assist by way training. I have trained 3000 school children drawn from various schools in Warri and environs. Worthy of note is that these training is free and the students are now great basic fire fighters and fire preventive experts.”

Mr. Udo spoke further, ,”my focus has been to build the mindset of many workers that will build a team of safety believers resulting in an incident-free workplace always.”

He identified lack of awareness and economic hardship as major factors militating against safety in the society adding that
most people attribute accident to natural causes, luck, fate and fortune, adding, “a major problem militating against safety in the society is awareness bedeviled by economic hardship.”

The Safety expert cum author noted further, “study has revealed that absent-minded or people who lost concentration while carrying out a task caused most debilitating accidents.”

The author said that the frequent fire incidents, road accidents, collapsed buildings and others were pointer to the fact that urgent steps needed to be taken on safety awareness and prevention.

The Nine chapters textbook was reviewed by Prof. Aniekon Offiong who was represented by Dr. Pabon Baribene.
