The member representing Ughelli North Ughelli South and Udu constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Solomon Ahwinahwi on Saturday empowered 265 persons from his constituency with various items.

The items include tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, generating sets, amongst others.

Ahwinahwi who presented the items to the beneficiaries at the General Field, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, promised to bring more empowerment programmes to the unemployed youths in his constituency.

Addressing his constituent during the occasion of his constituency empowerment programmme which took place during the weekend, Hon. Ahwinahwi said the distribution of items to the beneficiaries was in line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowas SMART agenda, adding that the state governor is working round the clock to ensure that there is prosperity for all Deltans.

He said, “I shall be reaching out to 265 persons spread across the federal constituency and I want to appeal to all the beneficiaries to please put whatever they are given into good and productive use and for those who are not selected in this phase, please be rest assured that this exercise will be a continues one, as between now and December I intend to reach out to another set of persons.”

While reinforcing the fact that resources available to him were not enough to take care of everybody, Hon. Ahwinahwi appealed to those who did not get anything this time to be patient, stressing that with God on his side, the empowerment programme will spread to the nook and cranny of his constituency.

“Let me say here that in no distant time from now, I will also be expanding my cash transfers progremme to capture more youths and women who are engagwed in petty trading and actually need support for their businesses and work,” Hon Ahwinahwi stated further.

While reeling out some of the motions he moved at the green chamber, Hon Ahwinahwi said efforts are on to award contracts for the construction of pedestrian bridges on some flash points along the Expressway at Ughelli and Agbarho because of his “motion on the need for the Federal Government to construct pedestrian bridges on the East/West Expressway at different sessions in Agbarho and Ughelli.”

The honourable member also said that he has moved a motion for “an urgent need for ministry of environment to check the invasion and menace of water hyacinth in waterways and creeks in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency of Delta State.”

He added that apartment from the several motions he had moved in the house, he still has several other motions under consideration which will have direct bearing on his people.

The federal lawmaker noted that he has also sponsored some bills to amend the existing laws of the country.

He also said that within this period, his office has been able to attract several federal projects through the 2016 budget to his constituency, some of which includes the Post Seasonal Intervention training programme on agriculture for 60 youths and women in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu local government areas.

Hon Ahwinahwi added that he is “closely working with the Niger Delta Developmental Commission, NDDC, to attract some developmental projects to our federal constituency in the 2017 budget.”

“Currently, I am working with the Ecological Funds office in Abuja for a bridge to link the people of Arhawharien community. The survey and project plans are undergoing processing.

“Also in the recently signed 2017 budget, I have some projects that are particularly targeted for Udu local government area. This is because their projects for 2016 were not Adequately captured by the respective ministries and agencies,” Ahwinahwi noted.
