THE people of Uvwie Kingdom recently rolled out the drums to celebrate in pomp and pageantry the 2013 annual Edjuvwie (supreme deity) of Uvwie festival.

The annual festival which began on the 23/03/13 would terminate on 08/04/13 and would afford adherents and worshippers of the Supreme deity the opportunity of making their individuals and collective supplications to the supreme deity.

Some prominent Uvwie indigenes which include Chief Fani Osanagere (Ugovwori of Uvwie Kingdom), Chief Edwin Omorowa (Osigidi), Comrade Dick Ani (former Chairman NURTW, Uvwie Chapter) and High Chief Priest Okpo of Uvwie Kingdom, in a chat with our reporter agreed that the annual Edjuvwie festival afford the people the once in a year opportunity of making prayers and supplications to the Edjuvwie deity for its protection against any external aggression, bountiful season and for the sustainability of peace amongst others.

A prominent politician and immediate past Supervisory Councillor for Finance in the Uvwie Local Government Area, Mr. Julius Uvwie and a veteran Uvwie Youth President, Mr. Christian Palmer in their separate chat with our Correspondent, described the Edjuvwie festival as a carnival of sort, where apart from making prayers and supplications to the deity, also provides Uvwie indigenes a chance of seeing and meeting themselves again after a long while.

According to the duo, “Edjuvwie festival is usually a carnival of sort as it provides Uvwie brothers and sisters both at home and in the Diaspora of seeing and meeting themselves after a long while as some of them had to come from within and outside Delta State and even abroad.”

A visit by our reporter to Afieki (Effurun Market Square) venue of the event, saw both male and female adherents making their supplications and dancing to the good rhythm of festival songs and drums.
