Delta State Government recognizes Herbal Medicine

The Delta State government gave it’s nod to herbal medicine recently at the first Ughelli Scientific Herbal Exhibition which kicked-off at Ughelli Kingdom Hall, Ughelli, Delta State.
While addressing the exhibitors and participants at the official opening, the Executive Secretary of the Delta State. Traditional Medicine Board, Asaba, Mr. Ohwofasa Fidelis said that the Delta State government recognize herbal medicine as alternative medicine, adding that traditional medicine has efficacy like orthodox medicines.
Ohwofasa said we need to highlight the importance of herbal medicine, stressing that it was not a crime to use herbal medicine, Deltans are free to patronize herbal medicine.
According to him “Delta State Ministry of Health has recognize traditional medicine. We are trying to encourage traditional medicine because we know that herbal medicine is equally good. The Federal Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014 agreed that there was need for traditional medicine to be harnessed into health system and efforts are on to achieve that.”
He disclosed that the Delta State Government has planned to train and retain traditional medicine practitioners to make their services standard, adding that they are trying to make them well-organized.
Ohwofasa further disclosed that Delta State government has a botanical garden at Mosogar that traditional medicine practitioners can obtain their raw materials easily.
“There will also be a laboratory for test to ease treatment. Herbals are used by both orthodox are traditional medicine, but a little difference in their methods. Herbs are gift from God”
The organizer of the First Ughelli Scientific Exhibitions Dr. Olusegun Johnson said that most of those who consulted them during that Warri Herbal Exhibition came from Ughelli and they decided to stage the herbal exhibition in Ughelli to serve the people.
He told the MANDATE that their target was to set the people free from their problems because most of the people that came there have different problems.
According to him “ People that came to us complained of different problems such as infections, waist pain, diabetes, arthritis, stomach ulcer, infertility, weak erection, hypertension, rheumatism, menstrual problem, pile among others. We are here to help them solve their problems with the aid of roots and herbs” he added.
The exhibition featured some prominent herbal practitioners amongst them were Dr. Adekunle Adigun of Ladigun life Care, Dr. Shola David Ogundare, alias Youngest Doctor of Sound Health Nature and Massage Therapists Centre, Dr. Ademola Ishola, Medical Director of Unique Global Herbal Therapy and many others.
