Residents in Warri have commended the chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Michael Tidi for his efforts in keeping Warri clean as promised.

Some respondents who spoke to our correspondent in Warri said keeping Warri clean was a herculean task which the Warri South council chairman has rose up to.

They said keeping Warri clean was necessary considering the unhygienic nature of most residents who litter the environment with reckless abandon.

They said the promise by the council to make laws to regulate the way refuse are dumped in the council was a welcome development, adding it was only through making such laws and enforcing them that residents will be made to obey them.

One respondent, Mr Onoriode James, said, “We want to commend what the chairman of the council is doing in Warri. It is not easy keeping Warri clean because the people here are very stubborn to deal with.

“For sometime now I have been seeing the Council’s waste truck moving up and down to clear refuse from our streets here in Ajamimogha and Okere road. And I must tell you they are doing a great job.”

On her part, Mrs Ruth Ominabo, a trader at the popular Okere Market, said, “Before now there used to be a lot of refuse dumps on the median of the road. But today you can see for yourself that the whole market is very clean.”

Another respondent, Mr Voke David, said, “I will have to confess that this time around, the Warri South Council Area has been doing their job very well. I must commend the Warri South Council’s Environmental Department for a job well done in keeping Warri clean.

“If you look at most of the major roads in Warri, you will discover that the roads are very clean unlike before when we used to see waste dumps in the middle of the roads.”

Recall that the Warri South Environmental Department have been clearing refuse in Warri Sapele Road, Okere Road, Avenue Estates Road, Part of Airport Road, NPA Express Road, Odion Road, Bowen Avenue amomgst others.
