Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Michael Tidi, on Monday lauded the International Association of Lions Club, District 404A1, for it’s plan to build a new eye clinic at the Central Hospital, Warri.

The chairman who received the Governor of District 404A1, Lion Fortune Wagbatsoma, and her entourage said it was high time Warri had an eye clinic, stressing that the plan to build an eye clinic in the council was a welcome development.

“I must commend you for this laudable project that you have decided to embark upon. It’s quite interesting what Lion Club is doing for the society.

“There is no better time for us to have an eye clinic in Warri than now. Her excellency, the wife of the governor, Dame Edith Okowa had started the process at the Warri Central Hospital and you coming in now with this project is heart warning.

“As a council we will do all we can to assist you with the little resources at our disposal. We will surely give you all the support that your want,” Tidi said.

Earlier, Governor of District 404A1, Lion Fortune Wagbatsoma, had told the Warri South Council Area that the groundbreaking ceremony for the eye clinic would take place on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

She said the club was not only going to build the eye clinic, but it will also equip it and train the doctors who will be working there.

She said that the gesture was part of the District’s humanitarian programmes lined up for the year.

While presenting her roadmap,
Wagbatsoma also said that the District would renovate children’s wards in government hospitals across the zones in the District.

“From our observations, there is no eye clinic in Central Hospital, Warri and they are currently making use of part of the Emergency unit. They have called on us couple of times to come to their aide.

“We have been donating eye equipment and eye screening materials to them. But this time around we have decided to build a new eye clinic there,” Wagbatsoma said.

She added that the humanitarian body had over 200 countries and 1.5 million members across the world, adding that District 404A1 had 2,700 members.

“We care for the blind, childhood cancers, environment, feed the hungry, built boreholes, toilets, diabetes through advocacy and awareness among others.

“District 404A1 has 112 clubs that covers five states and we covered over 200 communities in 2020.

“We emerged July 1, 2021, we are ready to build on the legacies of our leaders in a new dimension,” she said.
