The Executive Council of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, have begun campaigns against the recurring fire outbreaks in Warri, offering precautionary tips to immediately stop the dangerous trend.

Between the first week of January and January 31 this year, there were about 10 identified cases of fire outbreaks in Warri urban alone, destroying valuables running into millions of naira,,with its negative psychological effect on the victims and health concern associated with the harmattan haze.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, disclosed the council’s resolve to launch extensive campaigns against the recurring fire outbreaks in Warri, on Tuesday February 1.

Dr. Tidi, noted that the exercise would include transit campaigns as well as strategic engagements with community and opinion leaders.

The apparently worried Warri South Local Government Chief Executive, advised traders and other business owners to switch off all electrical appliances at the close of business daily and admonished residents of Warri South Local Government to apply same measure while leaving home daily for work, school and other business concerns.

He warned against bush burning, setting up fire in refuse dumps, making phone calls in filling ( gas ) stations, disposing leftover of cigarettes indiscriminately and ensuring proper safety of market places, especially at the close of business.
