Itsekiri Coordinators Back Tompolo, Slam Calls for Tantita Contract Decentralization

Ogheneruona Tejiri, Warri
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been called upon to disregard calls for the decentralization of the pipelines surveillance contracts just as calls by some individuals for revocation of the contract have been condemned.
Addressing journalist in Warri, Coordinators of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited from Itsekiri communities threw their weight behind High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Chairman , Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).
In a statement jointly signed by coordinators across various Itsekiri clusters, including Mr Ebisam Fenemigho (Ugbogboro), Mr Fidelis Ete Lori (Opumami/Obodo), Mr Richard Arubi (Ugborodo), Mr Emmanuel Demeyin (Deghele), and Chief Priest Roland Oti Yomere (Omadino), among others at at Press briefing on Wednesday, March 31, 2026, they described the agitation as self-serving and capable of destabilising the Niger Delta region.
They argued that those behind the calls neither represent the interests of the people nor possess the mandate to speak for communities in the oil-rich region, they insisted that their actions are driven by “selfish motives and personal gain.”
According to the group, such agitations risk creating confusion and reintroducing disorder in an area that has witnessed improved stability in recent times.
The coordinators, however, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita, noting that the move underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure.
They reaffirmed confidence in Tompolo, describing him as “the most capable and reliable leader” for the assignment, and credited his leadership with significant strides in curbing oil theft, enhancing security along the waterways, and restoring investor confidence in the sector.
Highlighting the company’s operational model, the coordinators said Tantita runs an inclusive structure that accommodates all ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region with community-based coordinators and contractors actively involved in monitoring and accountability.
They stressed that Itsekiri communities are well represented within the framework, describing their participation as a reflection of fairness and recognition of their roles as key stakeholders in oil-producing areas.
The group further dismissed calls for decentralisation or cancellation of the contract as misguided, alleging that some agitators were previously involved in illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism.
They added, “”such individuals are only seeking avenues to resume criminal activities that have been curtailed by Tantita’s operations.”
Maintaining that the surveillance contract is based on competence and performance rather than regional entitlement, the coordinators urged critics to channel their energies into legitimate ventures.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Tantita in protecting Nigeria’s oil assets while sustaining peace and environmental stability across the Niger Delta.
