XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS: SHOPRITE, MTN, DSTV OTHER SOUTH AFRICA BIZ CLOSE SHOPS IN DELTA

South African owned businesses that includes Shoprite, MTN, DSTV as well as Stanbic IBTC were all shut for operations in Warri and Asaba just soldiers and police took over their premises to provide security over the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Findings revealed that detachment of police and the army with armored personnel carriers (APC) were stationed at the Delta Mall , near Effurun Roundabouts, they were there on surveillance to prevent any mob attack.

The MTN office along Warri/Effurun road was securely locked as at Wednesday, August 4, 2019.

The situation was not different in Asaba as security agents were sighted keeping watch on the facilities.

Similarly, Stanbic IBTC premises across the state,according to sources were not also opened for businesses.

Contacted, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, Commissioner for Police confirmed that policemen were deployed to protect the facilities, he assured that there was no cause for alarm.

According to Mr. Adeleke, “the properties are well protected. Our men are there and there is no cause for alarm. The properties are safe and there is no cause to worry. No one should panic, our men are there to ensure safety.”

The police commissioner, however, warned troublemakers to stay clear of the properties, noting that anyone who tries to cause break down of law and order will be severely dealt with by security operatives.
