Chairman of Warri South Council area, Hon (Dr) Michael Tidi on Monday inaugurated the Special Task Force on the Beatification of Warri and it’s environs, with a mandate to evacuate all illegal dump sites in Warri South LGA and stop further dumping of refuse on such spots.

The Task Force which have three months to carry out its assignment, is to enforce no indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the streets of Warri Metropolis and Environs.

The Task Force, according to the chairman, is to ensure the free flow of traffic in Warri South and also to evacuate all abandoned vehicles dotted around Warri, especially in Hausa quarters and Igbudu market.

“Your terms of reference include removal of all illegal structures and banners and bill boards should be pulled down. We are not a lawless council area.

“Good enough the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Areas Development Agency, is already helping us with clearing some of the drainages.

“As a Council we are encouraging the Task Force to help us ensure that all the drainages in Warri are cleared.

“We are not ignorant of the law as regards motor parks. Some of them are private parks but you will have to identify the illegal parks in this council and close them down,” Tidi said.

He also mandated the Task force to relocate all traders who are shading their wears on the road and median of the road to the markets.

Tidi said mobile courts will be set up to try offenders, just as he appealed to lawyers and security agents to support the council in their quest to enforce the environmental laws of the council.

The Taskforce Chairman, Mr. Kenneth George, while responding on behalf of the members, thanked the Dr. Tidi administration for finding them worthy to serve and assured that members of the Taskforce will do their best to accomplish the terms of reference within the time frame given them.
