Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Michael Tidi, has urged politicians aspiring to become the next chairman of the council not to overheat the polity, stressing that Warri South is a peaceful local government.

The chairman said that all aspirants who are gearing up to mount the number one seat in the council should go about their businesses in a peaceful manner, noting that it took his administration a lot of efforts to maintain the existing peace in the council.

Tidi, who made this statement at his official residence in Warri when he played host to Mr Joseph Oribioye, Secretary to the Warri South Local Government and chairmanship aspirant for the Delta State 2024 local government election, however warned that he will not sit down and fold his hands and watch any aspirants cause trouble in the council area.

While nothing that his doors were opened for any aspirant who wants to come for consultation, the two term Warri South Council Chairman, said that nobody should stop anybody from showing interest in the Chairmanship position in the council, noting that, “it is their constitutional right to so aspire.

He says the council needs people with progressive ideas on how to move the council forward in terms of development. He said that he believed that Mr Joseph Oribioye, having worked with him for the past five years, had the experience and presence of mind to do the job.

“Nobody should come and heat up our polity for us. Warri South is relatively peaceful under my watch. I want to believe that you and your co-aspirants may have cause to interact. Please tell them that nobody should come and heat up the polity for us. The Bible says greater is the end of a thing than the beginning.

“I am going to end well by the grace of God. So nobody should come and constitute nuisance for us in Warri South because I will not hesitate to institute a legal action against anybody that will come and constitute a problem for the local government.

“Today, there is political peace in Warri South. As I speak, the political class is working together. We all are sitting down and working under the leadership of Dr Joseph Otumara and Dr Roland Oritsejafor. We see ourselves as one. There are no more internal rivalry and bickering among us. Those things are now things of the past, so I advise you to consult widely and court the support of our esteemed leaders because at the end of the day, we all (the leaders) would sit down and x-ray all the aspirants that are vying for this position and thereafter settle for the one who has the capacity to further our modest achievements”, Tidi said.

Earlier, the Warri South chairmanship aspirant, Mr Joseph Oribioye told Tidi that he was at his residence to consult with him and to let him know that he has aspiration to become the next chairman of the council.

While thanking Dr Tidi for all the good works he has done for the council and for changing the narratives in local government administration, Oribioye said he wants to continue from where Dr Tidi stopped because he believes that there is still much work to be done.

“Today, I am here with my team to first and foremost thank you from the depth of our hearts for the good works and all you have achieved in Warri South Local Government. We know how Warri was before you came in, and now the difference is clear.

“Mr. chairman, you have proven beyond doubt that you are one of the best council chairmen in the country. You have built one of the best local government lodges in the country, and today, you are building one of the state of the art cottage hospitals with 24 bedroom capacity. You have changed the narratives as far as local government administration is concerned.

“I want to continue from the progress you have made and keep the momentum of getting Warri South to the place we all dream of. My records as the SLG back to back are on record in Warri South. This dream of running for the chairmanship position is repositioning as well as keeping the legacy of Warri South in one track.
I am here to formerly inform you that I have the intention to run for the chairmanship position of Warri South Local Government Area.

“You have done so much in the health sector, which is your priority, and I am promising you that this sector can never be left behind. I want to assure you also that with God on our side we will be able to achieve this course by preaching one love to our people and we are going to speak with one voice in doing this, “, Oribioye said.
