TheWarri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) says it is pleased with the performance and actions of the Comrade Michael Ikeogwu-led Delta NUJ Council.

It, however, urged journalists in the state to accord him the needed support to move the union forward.

In a communiqué signed and issued at the end its congress on Monday by the chapel chairman and secretary, Comrade Okies Veeky and Comrade Joe Ogbodu respectively, called for unity among journalists in the state.

The Warri Chapel said it decided to pass the vote of confidence on Delta NUJ leadership led by its former chapel chairman owing to the transparent nature he has been running the affairs of the state council since he (Ikeogwu) took over the mantle of leadership.

It further urged journalists to speak with one voice and promote the ideas that would make union stronger for the betterment of its members across the state.

According to the communiqué, “Congress passed a vote of implicit confidence on the transparent and purposeful leadership of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu-led executive of the NUJ Delta State Council.

“That the Chapel appeals for unity amongst Journalists in the State and stressed on the need to speak with one voice for a stronger and virile NUJ in Delta State.”

On the election crisis rocking the State Information Chapel of the Delta Council, the Warri NUJ called for amicable resolution of the impasse and appealed to members of the chapel to respect the resolution reached at the last SEC meeting.

Meanwhile, the chapel has congratulated and thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on the appointment of Mr. Ehiedu Charles Aniagwu as Commissioner for Information, Mr Olisa Ifeajika as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) and Comrade Ovuozuorie Macaulay as Director-General of Warri/Uvwie Development Agency.

It read, “That NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel congratulate the new Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ehiedu Charles Aniagwu and the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika and urged both to use their positions to improve on the welfare of journalists in the state.

“That congress also congratulates the new Board of DESOPADEC and Comrade Ovuozuorie Macaulay, DG of Warri/Uvwie Development Agency on their well deserved appointments.”
