The Ugborodo Council of Elders have dissolved the governing council of Ugborodo Community Trust and the caretaker committee set up in place of the Trust.

The dissolution of the Trust and the Caretaker Committee followed consideration of the report of the peace committee set up by the Council of Elders for the purpose of facilitating the resolution of the crisis rocking the Community Trust in the place of the beleaguered Ugborodo Community Trust.

The Resolutions of the council of Elders was taken at a Congress of Ugborodo Community held on the 18th of September 2021, signed by Benson Dube Omadeli, and Pa. Anderson Ebiekutan, Olaja-Orori of Ugborodo and Secretary, Council of Elders respectively.

A copy of the resolution made available to newsmen in Warri reads, “That arising from the sharp conflict within the members of the governing council of the Trust, which conflict/disagreement has resulted in some members of the governing council instituting a suit in court against other members of same and making it impossible for the governing council to function properly and effectively, the said governing council of Ugborodo Community Trust is dissolved with effect from today the 18th day of September, 2021.

“That arising from the obvious lack of interest and the unwillingness of the Chairman of the caretaker committee, Prince Perry Atete to continue with the functions of the caretaker committee, the said caretaker committee is also dissolved with effect from today the 18th day of September 2021.”

The Congress also resolved that That in the interest of peace and harmony in Ugborodo Community, and in line with the provisions of Section 29(h) of the Ugborodo Community Trust Constitution 1996 (as amended), the functions of the dissolved Governing Council of Ugborodo Community Trust shall, in the meantime, be carried out by the Council of Elders of Ugborodo Community pending the establishment of a management committee or a new governing council for the community Trust.

The Congress appealed to all companies and major contractors operating in Ugborodo Community to co-operate with the Council of Elders and respect the above resolutions in the interest of peace in Ugborodo Community.

According to the resolution, “This is to inform the general public and, in particular, all companies and major contractors operating in Ugborodo Community, Escravos, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State that a congress of the people of Ugborodo Community summoned by the Ugborodo Council of Elders held on Saturday the 18th day of September 2021 to find a lasting solution to the intractable crisis affecting the management of the Ugborodo Community.

“The Congress was well attended by principal members of Ugborodo Community Council of Elders including the Eghare-Aja, Eghare Wellington Ojogor who, though present at the meeting could not speak due to his old age and associated ill-health, other notable members representing different segment of the Communities were also presented. The Olaja-Orori of Ugborodo Community, Benson Omadeli presided over the congress.”
