…as members of Itsekiri Historical Front pays him courtesy visit

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Michael Tidi, has retirated calls for the return of history to secondary schools in the country.

Tidi made this call in Warri, Delta State when members of the Itsekiri Historical Front, a social cultural group aimed at promoting the history of the Itsekiri people, paid him a courtesy visit.

Tidi said the importance of history in the development of any nation cannot be overemphasized, adding that history plays a virtual role in shaping the future of any nation.

He said bringing back history to schools will go a long way in making young people appreciate their historical background.

Tidi lauded the group for their laudable initiative of planning to erect historical monuments around strategic locations in Warri South Local Government Area, which according to him, is in line with his administration’s agenda of beautifying Warri.

He promised to assist the group to achieve it’s aim, adding that as a student of history, he will support anything that will showcase the history of Warri people.

Tidi, however advised the group to remain strong and continue to do what they have set out to do, adding that though challenges may come along the way, the should not be perturbed.

The Warri South Council Chairman appealed to citizens of the council to emulate the group by looking for ways they could help develop the council.

Earlier, chairman of the group, Esigbone Lilywhite, who was accompanied by Executive and members of the group, said they decided to pay the council chairman a visit to intimate him about the activities of the group and also to congratulate him for the peaceful Yuletide festival in the council.

Lily-white said, “We also wish to intimate you on the project we are currently embarking on, which is a Sculpture Burst of Ginuwa I).

“As part of our effort to beautify the Local Government with artifacts and encourage tourism locally, we intend to install this historic edifice at a location we wish to propose for your approval at any date convenient by you.”

He added that the project of embarking on erection of a Sculpture Burst of different Historical personalities, starting with that of of Ginuwa I, was born out of their desire to also help the government in beautifying Warri South Council.
