THE PROBLEM WITH MICHAEL JOHNNY

OUR attention has been drawn to series of media publications recently by one Michael Johnny and other attacking the person of High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.

We would not have joined issues with Michael Johnny and his co-travellers, but we are pained by the published lies being dished out regularly to the unsuspecting public and as advocate of truth, peace and development of the Niger Delta region and its people, we want a permanent end to this arrant nonsense and Michael Johnny and his co-travellers should call themselves to order.

It is most unfortunate that Michael Johnny is always attacking the kind-hearted Tompolo for no reason. Let us be good to those we meet on our way up the ladder because we will surely meet them again on our way down. Michael Johnny and his gang should know this now.

For those who do not know Michael Johnny too well, let them know it now that he is a pathological liar and has no regard for elders. He is also known to always want to pull down those whose statue he can never attain. We urge him to retrace his steps and accord Tompolo, a man that has done so much for his people in the Niger Delta region the desired respect.

The problem with Michael Johnny, to our understanding is that he does not know where to draw the line. He should be told that blackmail does not pay. We need peace in our oil rich Niger Delta region and we are not going to support anything that will rubbish the prevailing peace in the region and stall its development of which our illustrious son, Tompolo has been fighting for.

We are highly impressed with the attention Tompolo has attracted to the oil-rich Niger Delta region, Gbaramatu Kingdom and Okerenkoko in particular and we hereby pass a vote of confidence on him and we wish to at the same time implore Michael Johnny and his colleagues who are out on selfish mission to join forces with Tompolo to build the Niger Delta region of our dream.

The self-centered Michael Johnny and his group should know it that this path of destruction that they have chosen will not lead them far and they hereby advised to emulate Tompolo who has given hope to the hopeless, home to the homeless, light to those in darkness and job to the jobless.

Let Michael Johnny and his co-travellers know it now that the era of personal aggrandizement is over in the Niger Delta region. It is not going to be business as usual again where projects meant for our people are cornered by the likes of Michael Johnny.

We are not in a hurry to forget the role played by Michael Johnny during the re-building of Okerenkoko Community after the invasion by the Joint Task Force (JTF) in 2009. When he was brought in as a sub-contractor he failed to deliver as the equipment he supplied was indeed non-functional. The Delta State Government spent so much money towards the re-building of the Okerenkoko Community, but its efforts were frustrated by Michael Johnny who went all out to blackmail the contractor. Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) goofed by making Michael Johnny the Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Central Development Council (EGCDC).

It will interest you to note that before the Amnesty Programme, Michael Johnny was the Chairman of illegal oil bunkers. What legitimate job has Michael Johnny done in his entire life? His house at New Layout in Ekpan and the one he is currently building at the Effurun GRA are products of illegal money.

Now, Michael Johnny is out again to cause unrest in some parts of the Niger Delta region. He wants to formet trouble so that there will be total breakdown of law and order to create the environment for him to go back to his illegal oil bunkering. He should not be allowed to have his way this time around.

The proposed Federal Government Gas Industrial Park and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) University to be sited in Okerenkoko are meant to develop the entire Niger Delta region and Michael Johnny and his colleagues must not be allowed to frustrate these projects. We enjoin the Chief of Army Staff, the Naval Chief and the Inspector General of Police to investigate Michael Johnny and protect Federal Government projects that are coming up in the Escravos area as selfish individuals should not be allowed to frustrate these projects.

While we commend the Delta State Government that has also be a victim of Michael Johnny for attracting these projects to the Escravos area, we want to appeal to the Government to do all within its power too to protect these projects aimed at boosting our economy and education.

Long live Niger Delta Region,

Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria
