…as Tidi calls on club to help equip Omadino health centre

Rotary club of Ubeji on Friday commissioned a sit out extension building it built and donated to the Ubeji health centre in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.

Rotn Andy Uwejeyan, District Governor, D9141, who inaugurated the sit out extension, commended Rotn Patricia Temisanren, President, Rotary Club of Ubeji, for her doggedness in ensuring that the project came to fruition within a short time.

He urged other rotary clubs in Warri to emulate the fine example set out by the Ubeji club stressing Ubeji club as a relatively new club has set the tune for others to follow.

Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, after cutting the tape, called on Rotary Club to also help the Omadino health centre with medical equipment, saying that many communities depends on the Omadino healthcare centre for healthcare services.

He said the council has done a lot in renovating the Omadino healthcare centre which was dilapidated before he entered office.

“What we need at the Omadino healthcare center today is equipment. That health centre was in shambles before we came and renovated it. That health centre is the only health centre in the whole of that area. Several communities surrounding Omadino all depends on that health centre.

“I want to appeal to all Rotary district centers in Warri South council to come together to see what we can do for that health centre. We have done a lot to revive the health centre. It is a wonderful edifice. What we need now is just equipment.

Responding to the chairman’s request the District Governor assured the chairman that the club will do something quickly to make the equipment available for the Omadino healthcare centre.

While commending President of the Rotary Club, Ubeji for ensuring that the project came to fruition, the Warri South Council Boss, who is also a Rotarian, also thanked all those who contributed to the building of sit out extension in Ubeji healthcare centre.

“We are so grateful, and on behalf of the people of Ubeji and of course, the good people of Warri South Council Area, we say thank you to the Rotary family, which I proudly belong, and we pray God bless all the donors who made this possible.

“Today we are full of joy, and of course, I am going to write a report to His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and I believe he himself, through the relevant authority will write an appreciation letter to Rotary Club, Ubeji.

“I also want to thank Hon Griftson Omatsuli, Commissioner representing the good people of Itsekiri nation in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) for his support to this project.

“We give God all thanks for making this commissioning possible today. This is indeed a dream come true. And like the President of Rotary club, Ubeji, said this is a need, a lacuna, that was filled by the Rotary Club of Ubeji and for this we celebrate the president.

“When the council gave this land to Matrix Energy to build a hospital here, one of the requisition I made to Matrix Energy was to help expand our own primary healthcare centre. But after several reminders to Matrix Energy, nothing was done to expand the healthcare center.

“So I was so touched when the President of Rotary Club, Ubeji came to me during her inauguration and she mentioned this healthcare centre to me. I did not hesitate to give her the needed support. I am amazed by what I am seeing here today,” Tidi said.

On his part, the DESOPADEC commissioner representing Itsekiri nation, Hon Griftson Omatsuli thanked all those who carne for commission, saying that the project donated to the Ubeji health center was not only going to serve Ubeji people but also the surrounding communities.

“We thank rotary club of Ubeji for putting this project here. We will support this project to ensure that this health centre is maintained yearly,” he said.

He commended Tidi for his support and others who contributed to the building of the sit out extension.

Earlier, President of Rotary Club, Ubeji, Rotn. Patricia Temisaren, in her brief opening speech, said she was touched up embark on the project when she saw what nursing mother’s were passing through before they could get healthcare services in Ubeji.

“Sometimes in June, I came here to take the COVID-19 vaccine and it was raining that day. I saw pregnant women with nursing mother’s with babies on their back inside the rain, all waiting to be attended to. There was no shelter around and this touched me to my bone marrow and I was not happy about it.

“What we have today came as a need and a passion to remedy what was not right. This is what Rotary is about. In our own little way, how to touch lives is what we do?

“I am happy we are able to put this project together with the collective efforts of others,” she said
