The suspects were apprehended at a hideout around the marine quarters in Warri where they were cooling off.

The suspects were alleged to have scaled through the fence of the secretariat around 3;00 am on Wednesday and burgled into the one storey building.

Items carted away by the suspects included a 42 inches Sony Plasma Television and other unestimated valuables.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B division CSP Aniete Eyoh who led his men in the operation vowed that the police would fish out all the criminals involved in the dastard act.

It could be recalled that similar incident had occurred on Aug. 7, 2016 in the secretariat when the daredevil robbers burgled into one of the rooms and carted away some items including Lenovo tablet belonging to one of the journalists.

However, in a swift reaction, Mr Mike Ikeogwu, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents’ Chapel has condemned the spate of attacks on the secretariat.

He said the Union viewed the act as an affront and a challenge by the forces of darkness who were trying to wane their resolve of exposing ills in the society.

He said, ”We will not be deterred by the attack but have resolved to fight crime by continuing to expose criminal activities in the state and country in collaboration with other agencies.

”We commend the efforts of the local vigilante and our members who stood to ensure that more damages were not done to the Secretariat,” Ikeogwu said.
