As Military allegedly Lay Siege To Community

By Our Community

Residents of Pere-Ama  Community of Isaba Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State have deserted their homes following unwarranted attacks by people alleged to be men of the Nigeria Army.

According to reliable sources, the once peaceful Ijaw community, is currently under siege by the uniformed officers, while the people had taken refuge in neighbouring communities for fear of being arrested by the soldiers.

It was gathered that the armed attackers were  aided by an indigene of Isaba, Mr. Bomadiwei Arugbo, who is known to be an informant to the police and who masterminded the invasion of the community under the guise of hunting for illegal bunkers.

Mr. Arugbo was also accused of extorting money from the residents where failure to comply with his demand often results in the use of the military against his perceived enemies in the community, leading  to arrests and torture of  people.

According to one of the victims, the latest raid on Isaba community is not unconnected with alleged illegal bunkering of  crude oil.

As at the time of this report, over ten houses have been razed with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

Worried over the ugly development, Hon. Moses Ogugu, councillor representing Isaba Ward in the Warri South West Legislative Arm, condemned the act of Mr Arugbo and his cohorts, describing it as most unfortunate and regrettable.

He therefore called on the authority of the Nigeria Army, as well as other relevant agencies, to call their men to order so as to restore peace to the community.
