The chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr Michael Tidi, has said that public education system in Nigeria today is under threats because teachers are no longer passionate about their jobs.

Tidi, said this in Warri when he flagged off a one day orientation exercise for newly recruited teachers in Warri South Local Government Area on Thursday at the King George’s Hall, Warri.

The Warri South Council Chairman who places high premium on education, lamented that if care is not taken the public education system in the country will go into extinction, stressing that teachers need to put more efforts in their jobs.

He said the future of the children in our primary schools lies in the hands of teachers because the children learn a lot of things during that stage noting that primary education is the foundation of all education.

He therefore urged the newly recruited teachers to take their job seriously and ensure that they have passion for what they are doing.

‘If you know that you don’t have passion for teaching, please indicate now so that we can replace your with those who have passion for the job,” Tidi tells the newly recruited teachers.

The Warri Warri South council boss also frowned at the level of lawlessness in our education system whereby children in both primary and secondary school engage in cult activities.

The chairman was also worried about the situation whereby parents attack teachers for flogging their children, just as he called for the protection of teachers against such molestation.

Present in the entourage of the Chairman were his Vice Chairman, Chief (Mrs) Divine Iniovosa, the Warri South Head of Personnel Management, Mr Austin Akaize, Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr Joseph Oribioye, Supervisor for Education, Mr Patrick Oghonemu, Supervisor for Community Development, Youths Sports and Culture, Mr. Elvis Eboh, Supervisor for Health, Mr Sunny Bodor, Supervisor for Agriculture, Mr. Sunny Mabiaku, amongst others.

Earlier, the Education Secretary, Warri South Local Government, Mrs Augusta Omatsone, urged the newly recruited teachers to take their jobs seriously warning that now that they have been removed from from the the unemployment market, they should do their job diligently so that they do not go back there again.
