The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State Chapter, has announced the death of a former senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, describing his passing as a profound loss to the party and the state.
In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by the Secretary of the Delta State Caretaker Committee, Dr. Michael Tidi Esq., the PDP said it received the news of Senator Nwaoboshi’s death with deep sadness. The late senator, an indigene of Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The party extended its condolences to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North Senatorial District, and the government and people of Delta State, noting that Senator Nwaoboshi lived a life of courage, dedication, and conviction in public service.
Tracing his career, the PDP recalled that Nwaoboshi began public service in 1979 as an aide to the then Military Governor of Bendel State, Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia. He later obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Master of Laws (LL.M) degrees and went on to serve in several strategic positions, including Political Adviser to former Governor James Ibori, Commissioner for Agriculture and Special Duties, and Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
The statement further highlighted his tenure as Chairman of the PDP in Delta State, during which he instituted key reforms, strengthened party discipline, and oversaw the construction of the party’s secretariat.
He later represented Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, where he served on important committees, including the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
According to the PDP, Senator Nwaoboshi was widely regarded as a principled leader, a committed party man, and an administrator of rare capacity whose contributions to Delta State and Nigeria’s political development would remain enduring.
The party concluded by praying for strength for his family and eternal rest for his soul, describing him as an “Oracle” whose legacy would not be forgotten.
