In a bid to eradicate illiteracy as well as restore reading habits in pupils and students in Oghara Kingdom of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Olorogun Lucas Onorigho in conjunction with Fatherland Humanitarian Foundation (FAHUF) have donated note books to schools in the area.

Handing over the note books to the schools at Ogharefe Secondary School, Edjemouyavwe, Oghara Junction, Okuimemu Primary School, Otumàra and Ukavbe Secondary School, Otefe, Olorogun Onorigho said that the gesture was borne out of the need for him to contribute his quota to the development of the falling standard of education.

Olorogun Onorigho disclosed that the donation was borne out of his desire to help revive reading culture of the Nigerian child that has drastically dropped and has seriously affected the quality of the output in the schools.

Accordng to Olorogun Onorigho, “research has also shown that loss of interest in reading habit and culture recorded amongst our students today is also a result of non-availability of good and qualitative reading materials and articles for our children.”

Olorogun Onorigho, who is also the Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe -Oghara said that ‘School Nor be Scam’ cliche and many children wish not to read books and improve themselves should be blamed on poor funding of school libraries.

He commended the initiator and founder of (FAHUF), Freda Akpabio who he said, was the brain behind the donation of the books to the children, adding that without her, the occasion would not have come to reality.

Initiator and founder of FAHUF, Freda Akpabio, who was represented by Rosemary Udosen lamented that Nigerian children lack the basic educational foundation that would make them contribute to the growth and development of the country, adding that reading a part of learning in Nigerian schools is a dead culture which must be revived.

Responding, Mr Abovwe Isaac, Principal, Ukavbe Secondary School, Otefe, Oghara expressed his appreciation to Olorogun Onorigho and the Foundation for the donation, he said that the donation of the note books would no doubt help to redirect children from the vices induced by the social media and inculcate in them good study habits.

Also speaking, Mrs. Rosemary Obozu, Principal, Ogharefe Secondary School, Oghara said that government alone cannot tackle the down ward slide in the standard of education, she then called on good spirited Nigerians, corporate organizations and Non Governmental Organizations to emulate the good gesture of Olorogun Onorigho and the Foundation.
