… As PDP Flags Off Campaign For LG Polls In Delta

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday flagged off campaign for January 6, 2018 local government elections in Delta State, with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa calling on members of the party to remain united and committed to the ideals of the party for it to emerge victorious in the elections.

According to Governor Okowa, “we believe in democracy and strongly believe people’s votes must count; in every election. we campaign vigorously, we start early and sustain the campaign till the end.”
“You cannot sit in your house and expect to win elections, you have to tell the people what you have for them,” he said, emphasizing, “for us in the PDP, in every election, because we believe in the people, we have the people, we will always win; I am glad there is no crisis in the party in any part of the state.”
Governor Okowa who was specifically speaking at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North local government area of the state where the campaign commenced, urged leaders of the party to remain united and work together for the desired results to be achieved.
He stated, “as an elder, let your result speak for you, go out there and campaign, let nobody intimidate you, no result is written elsewhere, your votes must count, it is when we work together that we will achieve better results.”
The Governor reeled out some programmes executed by his administration in the area.
Also at Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North local government area of the state, Governor Okowa disclosed that despite the recession that affected the country, his administration is not indebted to civil servants and has executed several projects across the state, including the construction of bridges to connect Ijaw communities to the upland.
At Asaba where he also, flagged off the campaign for Oshimili South local government area, Governor Okowa commended the people for their support for his administration, assuring the people that the PDP government will continue to deliver on its electoral promises.
Chairman of the PDP in the state, Barr. Kingsley Esiso expressed confidence that the PDP will win in the polls, asserting, “there is no other political party in the state; other political parties should come out and campaign.”
Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, PDP Chieftain, Engr. Emeka Nnwobi, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Chief Dan Okenyi, among others who spoke at the rally disclosed that Governor Okowa’s giant steps in the delivery of democratic dividends have made the campaign for the PDP candidates in the area easy as, his actions have endeared the PDP to the people.
At Akwukwu-Igbo, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, leaders of the party in the area in the likes of Hon. Pat Ajudua, Dr Austin Obidi, among others assured Governor Okowa that the area belongs to the PDP and that they will increase the tempo of the campaign to ensure that the party gets 100 per cent of the votes from the area.
The Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi Chike Edozien who spoke through Chief Nicholas Chizea observed that Governor Okowa’s performance have made it such that the PDP will emerge victorious in the local government area, while Hon. Peter Onwusanya, Dr Nicholas Azinge, Chief Edwin Uzor, Alhaji Idris Kuta, Chief Douglas Okolotu, and others who spoke at the occasion, thanked Governor Okowa’s administration for running an inclusive government where every Deltan is an equal stakeholder.
Chairman of the party in the area, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji emphatically said, “I thank Governor Okowa for showing enough interest in Oshimili South local government area; we have received an appreciable share of your various appointments, empowerment and development of projects, we will use our votes in the forthcoming local government elections to attract more political patronage.”
Barr. Esiso had at Issele-Uku, presented the Chairmanship candidate’s flag to Hon. Chuks Oseme, at Akwukwu-Igbo, the PDP flag was presented to Hon. Louis Ndukwe, and in Oshimili South where the flag was presented to Hon. Uche Osadebe as the party’s flagbearer in the local government elections.
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Hon. Ifeanyi Osuoza, thanked Governor Okowa for being a true party man who has dedicated time to accompany the flagbearers of the party in the local government elections on their campaigns, stating, “our Governor is unique, it is novel for a Governor to dedicate time to move from local government to another, calling for votes for his party’s candidates in the local government elections, it shows how serious the elections are and the need for our party to win convincingly in the elections.”
