DELTA GOVT. SEEKS PROFESSIONALS INVOLVEMENT IN POLICIES IMPLEMENTATION

Olorogun David Edevbie, Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Delta State Governor has called on professionals to support the state government in the implementation of ideas to stimulate rapid development.
Edevbie made the call at the “8th Public Lecture and Award ceremony” organised by the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Delta chapter.
“Be ready to support the state government in the implementation of ideas as together we can build a stronger Delta,” he said.
The former Chief of Staff, Government House who was represented by Mr Lucky Idike spoke on the topic “Building and Harnessing the Capacity of Professionals for Job Creation and Economic Development”.
Edevbie said that the role of the professionals was key to achieving rapid and sustainable development of a society.
He said that the value of a professional lies in his ability to generate ideas capable of transforming the society as well as socialising the ideas in the political class.
“I challenge professionals to begin the process of contributing ideas that will create values, transform operations and catalysed development in Delta.
“I also challenge the professionals to know that it is important they begin to dedicate their time to reviewing the environment and it’s challenges.
“This will enable them to generate ideas that will bring transformation, create values and usher in the needed development.
“It is the duty of the professionals to work with the political class to implement these ideas in such a manner to create transformation and maximum values for society,” he said
Edevbie also said that it was the responsibility of the professional class to help designed policies and also drive research that unearths more understanding about critical issues.
“Professionals can support the political class by socialising ideas that will create values, transforms cottage industry and other industrial sectors by the application of shared infrastructure,” Edevbie said.
In his address of welcome, the Chairman, APBN, Delta chapter, Mr Paul Akporowho said that no society could attained meaningful growth without the professionals playing their roles.
He said that the chapter had successfully reached a consensus to establish a Centre for Professional Skills Development in partnership with the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE).
“The framework for progressive development must recognised the role of all key stakeholders and provide enabling environment to unlock the potentials needed to build a better and vibrant society,” he said.
Akporowho said that the achievement made by the chapter so far could not have been possible without the support of the member-bodies and also solicited for a continuous support to enable the executive to deliver on their mandates.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of award to some distinguished personalities including: Dr. Gani Enahoro, Mr Terry Mene, Dr. Morris Idiovwa, Dr. Tony Ofoyetan among others.
