By Eben Enasco Kingsley, Benin City
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Hilaru Gwandu has spotted that the business of crime fighting had been an issue that has bedeviled the society owing largely to high population and inadequate man power; but noted that, bringing together reputable personalities across board in partnership with the police in its onerous task will help curb crimes in the society.
He stated this on the occasion of the maiden formal inauguration of Eminent Peoples Forum held recently at the state Police Officers Mess in Benin City.
The forum which he said was a brain child of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Idris Ibrahim is geared towards bringing together people of reputable qualities to help partner the police in its onerous task of crime fighting at all levels of the society.
While addressing participants, CP Gwandu said, “It’s obvious that the police cannot be everywhere at the same time hence the need for effective synergy and collaboration as envisioned by the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris”.
Gwandu who further disclosed that it is important to note that in discharging its primary obligations, they must of a necessity join forces with the society to secure the common goods for all, hence the inauguration.
However, Mr. Gwandu gave the assurance that the police in its capacity, had resolved to confide in those chosen for the purpose of the forum to have a better and secured society
He said, “May I assure that all issues that we shall treat in the course of our partnership shall be treated with utmost confidentiality”.
