The leadership of organised labour in Delta State has suspended the strike notice issued to the state government by the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) earlier this week.

The decision to suspend the strike was reached today at a special joint leadership meeting of the affiliate unions of the Delta state Councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC),  Trade Union Cogress, (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Council, (JNC) based on the swift intervention of the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

According to Comrade Willaims Akporeha, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), Delta State, who presented a communiqué after the meeting explained that Congress is satisfied with the discussions and agreements reached with the state government concerning all welfare issues affecting workers in the state which include pensions, excessive taxation of workers’ salaries, minimum wage as well as housing scheme and weighing allowance for media workers.

The state NLC Chairman stated however that congress has set up a seven-man committee to liaise closely with relevant government agencies and departments to monitor full implementation of all the demands.
