In keeping with it’s tradition of installing new leadership every June 6 in a transition year, Iwhrekan community, co-host to Utorogu Gas Plant, Ughelli South Local Government  Area swore in a new Executive Committee with newly elected Vice Chairman, Com. Aghogho Ovie emerging as Acting Chairman.

Com. Ovie, the substantive Vice Chairman in the new leadership was sworn in at the Iwhrekan Town Hall along with Ishaka Lucky (Secretary), Dennis Onohwakpor (Assistant Secretary)/and Omafuvwe Chovwe, new Social Secretary.

The Vice Chairman, almost immediately transmitted to acting chairman in absence of the elected chairman, following litigation over that office along with that of the community’s Public Relations Officer while newly elected Financial Secretary, Chovwen Labourer and Treasurer, Efeturi Omoberaiye were also absent under unclear circumstances.

The brief inauguration, moderated by the community spokesman, Mallam Goldsmith, was greeted with jubilation across the community among youths, women and elders who were happy that another successful leadership transition has come and gone while those with yet vacant contentious offices  are expected to resolve and join the Executive Committee.

The new Executive Committee which succeeded the out gone leadership chaired by Chavwuko Gbemre is expected to lead affairs of the oil rich community for the net two years.
