In meeting the plight to ensure regular power supply to the 500 bed Melford Okilo Memorial Hospital, Yenagoa, the State Government has completed the installation of two 1.500KVA Genrating set and a 12000AMPAS synchronizing power unit at the hospital.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony of the project to the Ministry of Energy’s by the contracting Firm, Marac Nigeria Ltd, the Commissioner of Energy, Barr, Francis Ikio noted that the essence of the project is to provide the hospital does not lack power supply as the government prepares to provide Bayelsans with effective health
care services when the hospital is fully operational.

The Commissioner stated that the State Government desire is to make the health facility a centre of excellence since conscious effort is being made by government to make the hospital work effectively to the benefits of the people.

He stressed that since power supply is critical to the development of any society, government has also put  in place a robust plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state to make life more meaningful to the people.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Director of Power in the ministry, Engr. Duka Moses noted that the project is designed in such a away that once there is public power failure the automation system immediately swishes on the generating set.

He expressed the hope that the project which is essential to the hospital would complement Government elaborate plans to provide regular power supply to the state.

In his remarks the contracting Engineer, Engr. Onowigbose Charles who explained the functionality of the project stated that the 12000AMPS synchronizing power has two units that can optimized one unit to serve the whole hospital till the need to other arises.
