EVUETAPHA, USIRADA EMERGES WINNERS OF MAIDEN DBS WARRI QUIZ COMPETITION

Master Great Evuetapha, 15yesrs old student of Otokutu Grammar School, Otokutu in Ughelli South Local Government Area and Oghenema Usirada of Anglican Grammar school have emerged overall winners in the Senior and Junior categories of the Maiden edition of the Quiz Competition organized by the Delta Broadcasting Service(DBS), Warri to mark the 30 years of creation of Delta State.
Evuetapha and Usirada emerged overall winners after a keenly contested competition which featured on the culture, people and history of Delta State.
The quiz competition, which featured a total of 20 students between the ages of 10-15 participated at the Senior category, while 32 students of the junior category between the ages of 10-14 had their day.
Oyebamiji Ayomide of Federal Government College, Warri and Blessing Kingsley of Abe 1 Secondary school, Effurun came seound and third respectively in the Senior Category.
Similarly, Okeoghene Shadrack of Urhobo College, Effurun took the second position and Miss Sophia Orugbo of New Era Model School also in Effurun came third respectively in the junior category.
Speaking at the occasion held at the Government House Annex, Warri, Pastor Malcom Oteri, General Manager, Delta Broadcasting Service Warri said that the Delta at 30 Quiz Competition was put in place by the Management of the Service to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the state in 1991 and to showcase the educational talents of the younger ones in redirecting their mindsets for a better society.
Pastor Oteri saluted the brilliant performance of the students , stressing that the the quiz competition initiative has further broadened the students on the the culture and people of the state.
The DBS Warri boss also reminded students that they are the agents for a positive change in Nigeria, he rged them to take their educational pursuit seriouly.
Immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education, Mrs Gbubemi Ikolo, a reknowed constitutional Lawyer, Dr Akpo Mudiaga Odje, Former Chief of Staff, Government House Asaba, Professor Godini Darrah and a Special Assistant to the Governor, Comrade Austin Ozobo, in their various speeches, described the initiative of the Delta At 30 Quiz Competition as noble, they called for sponsors from individuals, corporate bodies and politicians to sustain this noble idea.
They also commended the management of DBS, Warri for organizing the academic and intellectual exercise and also urged the students to study hard as there is no short cut to success.
Some Winners at the quiz competition commended the management of DBS, Warri and also appealed for sponsorship of more of such programmes.
The ceremony featured recitation of poems, a brief history of Delta State, cultural display and the cutting of theDelta @ 30 anniversary Cake as well as the presentation of certificates and cash gifts to the winners.
