Hundreds of women from the Tisun Community in Warri North LGA took action on Monday by shutting down Chevron’s Dibi Flow Station Facility in Delta State. They cited alleged continuous marginalization and discrimination, including the planned termination of the contract held by their leader.

The women, holding placards and chanting solidarity songs at the facility, issued a statement titled “A Call for Caution Regarding the Ongoing Marginalization of Tisun Community Indigenes by CNL in Dibi Flow Station… and a Warning Against the Planned Termination of the Contract of Aursmon Nigeria Limited or Face Our Wrath.” The statement, addressed to the Area Manager of Chevron Nigeria Limited in Warri and dated March 22, 2024, was a response to a previous letter.

Signed by Madam Evelyn Omajugho, Women Leader; Mrs. Phileta Ebrohimi, Secretary; and Madam Grace Abaje, Assistant Women Leader, on behalf of the “Concerned Tisun Community Women Group,” the letter highlighted the community’s grievances. The women warned that during the protest, “no food supplies would be allowed for your personnel or any contractors at your Flow Station,” emphasizing that “your presence in Tisun Community is more of a curse than a blessing.”

They expressed that the continual marginalization and discrimination against their youth, women, and individuals with disabilities were no longer tolerable. The community strongly opposed the plan to terminate the contract of Aursmon Nigeria Limited, the sole indigenous contractor representing the community. They warned that if they is done then Chevron Nigeria Limited must leave their land because the contract is the only source of minor employment to the women, youths and other indigenes.

The letter was copied to President Bola Tinubu, Senate President, Governor Oborevwori, IGP, the Olu of Warri, Chevron’s Managing Director and many other relevant authorities in the Country.
