Ember months: Police to clampdown on fireworks offenders, assures crime free celebrations

In line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase and the Delta State police commissioner, Alkali Baba Usman, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, Mamman Sale Rijau has warned Sapele residents against the use of fireworks and firecrackers before, during or after the yuletide.
CSP Rijau who gave this warning while speaking with newsmen weekend said the police is bent on carrying out the directive of the IG to the letter explaining that criminals could perpetuate that heinous acts under the guise of fireworks.
According to him, to curb its indiscriminate use, the police will be carrying out a thorough combing exercise to fish out the sources of fireworks in the metropolis. He said offenders will be dealt with accordingly.
Similarly, the DPO has assured Sapele residents of a relatively crime free environment as the yuletide approaches.
While saying that Sapele is already experiencing less cases of crime compared to other metros, CSP Rijau said the police is working closely with the vigilante and community leaders to actualize this task.
The Sapele division patrol team in conjunction with the vigilante the community members too have been assisting the police. We have had series of meetings with some of the community leaders. That is why we less crime in Sapele, compared to other paces. We are taking proactive measures. Apart from the patrol, we also raid all the criminal hideouts and it is yielding results because we are driving the criminals out of Sapele.
He assured that everything is being put in place for the safety of lives and properties during the ember months which are characterized by various celebrations and increase in crime.
