Our correspondent Frank Efe reports that, donating the items to the College on behalf of the family, Mrs. Grace Ogbemi, a lawyer and first child of Late Chief Edukugho noted with pride that 16 members of the Edukugho childrenpassed through the College over the years.

Mrs. Ogbemi also noted that Hussey Model College has produced prominent men and women in the country, saying that the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II, a former military administrator of Lagos state, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson are products of the school.

She urged the students to strive for excellence in not only academics but also in behavior, adding that they should see themselves as privileged children who had the opportunity of a sound education in a highly regarded institution like Hussey College.

She said; “You should strive for excellence not only academically but also in your behavior and conduct at all times. You must always remember that your parents and guardians are making a great sacrifice to see you through school.”

Mrs. Ogbemi also emphasized that the only way the pupils could become successful in their professional careers was for them to focus on their education now.

“I believe that you all want to become successful professionals, top civil servants, industrialists and business men and women. The way to achieve all these laudable goals is to focus on your education now,” she noted.

She listed the items donated to include; eighteen standard size laboratory tables, one hundred and twenty laboratory stools, three standard laboratory cupboards and a trophy.

Receiving the items, the Principal of the College, Mr. Hendrix O. O. Ajuyah, expressed gratitude to the Edukugho family for the kind gesture.

While saying that the college will revive sports in order to take its pride of place in the society, the principal said that, “Your family is the first that has made such bountiful donation to the school and I want to pledge that the donated furniture items will be judiciously used to enhance the teaching/learning of science and academic excellence in Hussey College.”
