Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema has threatened to shut down Okere Market in Warri if the traders’ leadership refuse to corporate with the Warri South Council in its renewed effort to ensure surroundings of the markets as well as median of major roads in the City are completely cleared from  embarrassing waste.

Hon. Edema who summoned the leadership of the market to his office for a meeting tomorrow to work out modalities of how refuse disposal in the market would be effectively managed, also ordered owner of a private property under construction at Okumagba Avenue Close to Total Filling Station to remove building materials along the road to allow free flow of traffic as well as to avoid blockage of drains.

Flanked by his Vice, Hon. Charlie Etsaghara, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Bawo Nana, the Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George, Supervisor for Education, Linda Eya Ikpuri, Supervisor for Health, Mr. Emma Amiwero and the Council’s Head of Personnel Management, Mr. James Kolo, Hon. Edema inspect clearing of sand, refuse and over-grown weeds along the Okumagba Avenue, Apala Area and Mabiaku Road by Warri GRA.

The Warri South Council Boss also ordered traders displaying their wares on the median of Okumagba Avenue to vacate immediately.

The Councilor representing the ward in Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Jude Onovughe Igherebuo in an interview after conducting Hon. Edema and members of his delegation round on-going clean-up works at Okumagba Avenue, commended Hon. Edema and appealed to people of the area to corporate with authorities of Warri South Local Government in her renewed determination to improve the sanitary and aesthetic look of Warri.
