Suspected dare devil armed robbers today shot dead a driver working with the Government House, Annex, Warri in what seemed to be a failed robbery attempt.

Our correspondent gathered that the driver who was shot was believed to be carrying huge sum of cash from a bank to the officials in the annex.

Eye witness account said the driver and some staff of Government House, Annex had gone to bank to withdraw money for logistics needed for the Delta State Waterways Security meeting holding Thursday at the Annex.

The dare devil armed robbers according to an eye witness account,  trailed the driver from an undisclosed bank and double-crossed his vehicle a few meters to the government house, but the driver managed to brush aside the vehicle and was headed towards gate when the armed robbers shot him.

The incident which occurred at about 12 pm made officials in the government house ran helter smelter for safety.

It was further gathered that the robbers laid wait for the vehicle conveying the cash at the entrance of the premises of the Annex by the Edjeba Expressway.

Our Correspondent also learnt that the wounded driver was said to have driven the car with the money safely into Government House before he was rushed to the hospital, but he died on the way.

As at the time of filling this report police source told our correspondent that mobile police men on guard at the Annex gave the robbers a hot chase but could not apprehend them.

The Delta state police command is yet to confirm the incident.
