Over 100 Students Benefit From DELSU Financial Assistance

Over 100 students today benefited from the financial assistance of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.

The financial assistance was given to the students at the newly constructed 750 capacity PETfund lecture hall located in site III, Abraka, Delta State.

Declaring the programme open, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eric Arubayi congratulated the deserving students saying the gesture was to encourage excellence and hard work.

He noted that the programme was not a scholarship programme but a financial assistance programme.

Prof. Arubayi who initiated the financial assistance programme when he assumed office five years ago, said the gesture was the institution’s way of encouraging hard work.

The VC, prayed that his successor would continue with the programme, noting that the school management had started the process and it was now left for the person that will succeed him to surpass his achievements in the programme.

According to Prof. Arubayi the scheme is in two parts, explaining that the second part was the work study programme for students who have financial challenges and could not afford three square meals.

He noted that the work study programme was a common thing in universities  all over the world where students are paid stipends for services requires rendered.

Prof. Arubayi, who said that though the school was still in the woods, they are going to get to where they want and continue to move the University forward.

Speaking earlier, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr. Eddy Agbure thanked the parents for encouraging their children to take part in the programme.

He said; “This is part of the school management’s desire to encourage deserving students to take their studies seriously, even as the University is committed to ensuring that students in the school are motivated to excel in their academic pursuit.”

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent said they were very happy to be among those to be given the financial assistance.

Miss Noble Edojariogba, a 200 level law student, said she was happy to be among those given the financial assistance, noting that the gesture will spur her do more.

Another recipient, Mr. Famous Osadebe, a 300 level law student, said he was shocked to find out that his name was among those listed for the financial assistance, thanking the school authorities for the gesture.

Some of the parents who spoke to our correspondent expressed their joy over what the school authorities were doing to encourage their children.
