Delta State Police Arrest Four in Gruesome Murder Case
By Francis Sadhere, Warri
The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Paulinus Okon, whose skull was discovered at a shrine in Otokutu.
Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, addressed the media, detailing the harrowing circumstances surrounding Okon’s disappearance.
He was reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his brother after going out with his close friend, Efe Onoetiyi. Initial inquiries revealed that Onoetiyi, who had denied any involvement, later approached Okon’s family soliciting a ransom of 20.7 million Naira, claiming that Okon had been kidnapped.
As the investigation progressed, police grew suspicious of Onoetiyi’s claims. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and following a thorough investigation led by DPO Ekpan, another suspect, Okeimute Gaga, was apprehended. Gaga confessed that he, along with Onoetiyi and two others, had brutally murdered Okon.
According to Gaga’s confession, the group lured Okon to Orere River, where they tied him to a stake and beheaded him. His body was disposed of in the river, while the herbalist involved, identified as Lawrence Joseph, buried Okon’s head at his shrine.
The motive behind this heinous crime was revealed to be financial. Onoetiyi had reportedly misappropriated 30 million Naira, which Okon had given him for a property investment. Faced with the prospect of explaining his actions to Okon, Onoetiyi resorted to murder to cover his tracks.
All four suspects are currently in custody, as the investigation continues. Commissioner Olufemi expressed his commitment to justice for the victim and his family, stating, “We will ensure that those responsible for this barbaric act face the full wrath of the law.”
This case has sent shockwaves through the community, seeing the tragic consequences of betrayal and greed.
The Delta State Police Command urges anyone with further information to come forward as they continue their investigation into this disturbing crime.
