Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has warned contractors handling government projects to execute them according to specification and standards so that the people of the state would maximize the benefits accruable from them.

Dr. Uduaghan gave the warning, Thursday, during the commissioning of N3.5bn Flyover Bridge in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Besides executing projects to specification, he said contractors should ensure timely completion of projects so as to avoid wastage of scarce resources.

According to him, “we have a lot of projects going on in Asaba to make it a befitting state capital,” stating that, “this project started two years ago, not eight years and today, we are commissioning the flyover.”

He observed that the flyover was very strategic as it will ease traffic on the road which connects Edo State and reduces time of journey from Asaba to Abuja and other parts of the country through Edo State.

The Governor said the flyover which is one of the initiatives of the Delta State Government was conceived specifically to ease traffic challenge in Asaba as the city gradually grows to become a metropolitan centre.

“The flyover which we are commissioning today is a deliberate attempt by this administration to remove bottlenecks that would portent very serious impediments to free flow of traffic in Asaba and transform the skyline of the state capital”, the Governor said.

He added that the bridge is one of the three initiatives of government which is geared towards improving transportation and the socio-economic life of urban dwellers in Delta State.

Uduaghan said since the creation of Delta State in 1991, Asaba has witnessed unprecedented urban growth, leading to significant increase in vehicular traffic in the city, hence government has reacted through provision of various infrastructure to meet the growing demand.

Uduaghan said since the advent of his administration, the state government has constructed over 733 urban roads, out of which over 156 are located in the capital city.

Dr Uduaghan who thanked those who contributed to making the project a success, including Deltans for their patience, added, “we envisioned  that there will be a time there will be heavy gridlock in this area, that is why we constructed the flyover.

“The flyover is very strategic, it is on the road that leads to Abuja, you can drive through this road to Abuja through Ubiaja, Uromi and other towns in Edo State,” he said

The flyover bridge was awarded to Consolidated Construction Company (CCC) on 16th August, 2013.
