The Delta State Police have arrested four suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing Warri and its environs, just as they recovered a double barrel gun, two locally made single barrel guns and various charms from them.

Addressing pressmen in Warri, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Celestina Kalu said; “On 1/3/14 at about 0600hrs, at Chevron Clinic Road opposite DBS, Warri, a gang of four armed men robbed one Mrs. Kpesu Celestina ‘f’ of her Honda CRV with Reg. No. BZ 11 RSH. However, on 2/3/14 at 0930hrs, along Warri Sapele Road, Warri, a crack team of detective from the Area Commander’s Office, Warri, saw and suspected the vehicle.”

“The team immediately contacted policemen at a nearby check point where the vehicle was eventually stopped for routine check. Three men namely Johnson Samuel Rarire ‘m’ (driver); Ovinne Ikweki ‘m’ and Garba Mohammed ‘m’ were arrested with the vehicle. On interrogation, the suspects confessed to the armed robbery and previous armed robbery cases within Warri and environs,” she added.

According to the Police PPRO, the arrested suspects led the team to Owhawha community in Ughelli South Local Government area, where they identified one Mr. Emmanuel America as a member of the gang and he was promptly arrested.

Items recovered from Mr. America were, a double barrel gun, two locally made single barrel guns, a dagger and various charms.

She added that the police are on the trail of the other armed robbery gangs that fled, appealing to the general public to assist the police “by given useful information on criminals, their hide out and their activities.”

she added that investigation was in progress while the suspects will charged to court at the end of the investigations.

However, Mr. America while speaking to journalist, denied ever knowing that the boys were armed robbers, explaining that he only did some charms for them and that the guns recovered from him were the guns his used as a vigilante chairman at Owhawha community.

The victim of the armed robbery gang, Mrs. Kpesu Celestina who identified two of the robbery gang told newsmen that one of the arrested suspects pointed a gun at her chest while the others beat up her son and took her car away.

She said; “I was going to Church for early morning prayers at Redeem, Shekinah Model Parish, opposite DBS. As I came out of the express trying to enter the Chevron road, the boys used their car to block my car and one of the boys jumped down and opened my door and put a gun on my chest. My son came out and held the gun and they started beating him. They took our handset and abandoned the vehicle they used to block us and zoomed away with my car.”
