DELTA GOVT. TO RECRUIT 750 TRAFFIC OFFICERS TO CHECKMATE CHAOTIC TRAFFIC SITUATION–IGBAKPA
By Nyerhovwo Oghenetejiri
DELTA State government has approved the recruitment of 750 youths as traffic officers for the effective control of vehicles plying the roads in the state with a view to put in check chaotic traffic situation as well as not too palatable behaviors of drivers and other vehicle owners in the state
The transport Commissioner, Hon. Ben Igbakpa who disclosed this in Warri, said that the taskforce would address the challenges of the chaotic traffic situation in the oil-rich city of Warri and other parts of the state.
Speaking on complaints by the people that some operators of the Delta City Mass Transit were charging commuters the same amount with the private commercial buses, Hon. Igbakpa said that the team would address the anomalies, adding, ‘’It is appalling and disturbing that in spite of the fact that government has subsidized the bus rate by 50%, the operators still charge exorbitantly. It is our duty to rise up to the effective monitoring of the transport scheme and ensure the people enjoy the benefit of the transport system.”
Hon. Igbakpa commended Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, governor of Delta State for his “developmental strides’’ in the state, he spoke further, ‘’For the governor to emerge as Vanguard The Sun and The Nigerian Pilot newspapers’ Man-of-the-Year awards shows that he is working. Those that sow must surely reap the fruits of their labour.”
It could be recalled that Dr. Uduaghan recently at a thanksgiving church service in Warri condemned negative attitudes of operators of the mass transit programmes.
