The Delta State House of Assembly says a total of thirty four bills were received for legislative actions in the last one year.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who disclosed this at a press conference in Asaba to mark the second anniversary of the Sixth Delta State House of Assembly, said of the number ten were executive bills while twenty four were private member bill.

The  Speaker who was flanked by Principal Officers and Members of the House at the briefing, also highlighted other achievements of the Sixth Assembly, challenges and projected for the future.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori said out of the thirty four bills received, eighteen have been passed and of the number, twelve have been assented to by the Governor with six awaiting assent, while sixteen others were at different stages of legislative processes of lawmaking, including Committees scrutiny.

The Speaker listed the twelve bills that have assented to by the governor to include, the Delta State Economic Council Amendment Bill, the Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, the Delta State Security Trust Fund Amendment Bill, Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti Cultism bill and the Delta State Scholarship Board Bill.

Others are the Delta State Structure for Signage and Advertisement Agency Bill, the Delta State Public Procurement Commission Agency Bill, the Delta State Appropriation Bill, the Delta State Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Amendment Bill and the Delta State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Bill.

Hon Oborevwori named the six bills awaiting the Governors assent include the Delta State Bureau for Land Instrument Preparation Charges Bill, the Delta State Agency for Control of HIV/AIDS Bill, the Delta State Investment Development Agency Bill, the Delta State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority Amendment Bill, the Delta State College of Education Mosogar Bill and the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Bill.

The Speaker explained that the sixteen bills that are in various stages will receive expeditious passage, disclosing that two bills that had passed first readings were withdrawn by leave of the House while one failed at the presentation stage, stressing that the State Assembly remained committed to providing effective representation of their constituencies.

Hon Oborevwori noted that the state legislature experienced some challenges which resulted in the unavoidable change in the leadership of the House and assured Deltans that the members were more united than ever before to face the task ahead.

While stressing that the Sixth Assembly will continue to keep faith with its primary function of lawmaking aimed at promoting order and good governance in the state, the Speaker said the House has performed creditably well.

Hon Oborevwori commended the state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for his disposition towards the progress of the House, adding that the media has been a very strong partner in progress.

The Speaker assured that the House was determined to improve on its performance in the third legislative year of the sixth Assembly and promised to maintain the cordial relationship between the legislature and other arms of government.
