Delta APC constitutes 5-man panel to probe state party chairman – SWC
The All Progressive Congress (APC) Delta chapter, State Executive Committee (SEC) has constituted a five-man Disciplinary/fact finding Committee to investigate the allegations level against the state’s party Chairma Prophet Jones Erue.
The SEC, led by the party’s Secretary in Delta Mr Okonji Chidi disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Warri.
Chidi who was flanked by some executive members of the party in a press statement at a media briefing consequently urged Erue to step aside while the allegations were being ex-rayed.
He said that the the adhoc committee was mandated to submit it’s report to the SEC in the next two weeks.
According to him, the party resolved that Erue wrongly suspended his deputy, Mr Elvis Ayomanor and some executive members of the party.
“The decision by Erue to suspend Ayomanor, Woman Leader, Mrs Janet Oyubu, Delta South Senatorial Chairman, Mr Tosan Awani and six others for alleged misconduct contravene the party’s constitution.
“The APC Delta, SEC met to review the fresh crisis rocking the party in the state arising from the ‘ unilateral and arbitrary constitution of vacant senatorial positions in the party and the illegal suspension.
“The APC State Working Committee or SEC did not meet on Jan. 2020 as claimed by Erue and have not met since March 2019.
“At no time was any meeting held to take decisions on the above subject matters and at no time was any complaint or allegation sent to the APC SEC in compliance with Article 21(B) of the Party’s Constitution.
“Therefore, the SEC has decided that the decision taken by Erue from his bedroom is null and void, a violation of Articles 20 and 21 of the Party’s Constitution,” he said.
The SEC also accused Erue of anti-party activities including lack of transparency and accountability in his office.
“He has persistently refused to give account or provide information on all funds of the party.
“Monies collected from sales of forms for Local Government elections, General elections, grants from the National office, donations and gifts to the party have all gone unaccounted for.
“The SEC has tremendous respect and regard for all party leaders but insists that the right thing should be done at all times because the party belongs to all leaders and members,” he said.
Responding, Bar. Valentine Onojeghuo, Legal Adviser to APC in Delta said that the allegations were not true.
According to Onojeghuo, the decision was taken by the State Working Committee in accordance with Article 21 of the Party’s Constitution.
“A vote of no confidence was passed on them so they lack the locus standi to take decision in the party.
“Erue has ran the party transparently, the auditor is there to verify the account. Their action is an antics of a drowing crowd. They are already drowning.
“Constitutionally, it is only the chairman that has the prerogative to call for party meeting in the state.
“Erue has no case or petition before th,” National Working Committee of the party,” he said.
