With the recent mass defection of Nigerian Politicians from their existing Political Parties to another, it clearly shows that the reason for Nigerian Politicians being in the public office, is never about ‘service’ or to bring into manifestation a ground vision that would positively impact the populace like their counterparts in developed countries, but it is obviously about them creating more opportunities for the continuation of their selfish agendas. It is also very sad and pathetic that these defections from one party to another, has become an acceptable norm in Nigeria’s political lexicon.

Today, they are in APC, yesterday they were in PDP, the day after tomorrow they are back to PDP. And often times, these Politicians defect at the slightest provocation, especially when they have been deprived of one Juicy future portfolio, favour or attention. That, in itself tells us that their ‘MOTIVES’ for being politicians to be in the public service, is totally wrong and not in the interest of the Nigerian people.

In my own view, those who defected have one personal problem or the other with their party’s leaders – which they fear will adversely affect their future political ambitions. Very soon, they will defect from PDP again to APC, or another party, especially when it appears they will not get the opportunities they anticipated, or when they are not given any personal favours.

These Politicians are not defecting because they want really want ‘GOOD GOVERNANCE’ to be expressed, neither are they really interested in what affects the poor Nigerian public. All the reasons given for the recent defections, are nothing but political propaganda and baseless.

The whole situation, in my own view, is making Nigeria to revolve around the same spot without making any headway for sustainable progress and development. We hear Kwankwaso is at war with the incumbent Governor of Kano. Shehu Sani is at war with Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Dino Malaye is at war with his Kogi State governor. So we see, nearly all the defecting politians are not sure of their ticket in their home State in future elections, so the best option is to defect, where it seems the grass might be greener, and where they will be given ticket to contest in the next election. Even Atiku Abubakar is said to be at war with the leadership of the APC because of his HIGH TASTE FOR POWER.

According to an online post said to be by Gen. Alani Akinrinade (Rtd), while describing the 8th Assembly and their recent antics: “As far as l am concerned, there is nothing like Senators in the Federal Republic of Nigeria as at today. What people refer to as Senators, is merely a deceptive and illusory assemblage of national irritants, who deliberate daily on how to purchase new cars, build new mansions and buy fantastic ones abroad, arrogate a strange and unjustified immunity to themselves, get constituency votes for marrying new wives and servicing girlfriends.

This assemblage derives most of its membership from retired and expired ex-governors, who ran their states aground and left them in huge debts, and also left their subjects bleeding, and weeping in sorrow and abject penury. You also have a lot of rascals, hooligans, area boys and street fighters amongst their fold. “They should let it trickle down to their medulla that things are no longer the same. It is no more business as usual and there is nothing they can do about it.

I reliably gathered that most of them who borrowed money from banks to finance their campaigns, are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with pressures from the banks. That is the way it should be. This is not a business venture, rather a call to service. Hence, if you are not comfortable with the tune of events, then you resign, instead of turning yourself a legislative embarrassment and national disgrace.

I am yet to see any of them who would be missed for a minute if he resigns today. This crop of wonderers would undoubtedly leave a legacy as the worst performing, and most unproductive Senate in the history of Nigeria. Their latest actions and pronouncements are indeed a joke taken too far.”

In other words, these Politicians are not defecting for the good of the country, but for their selfish taste of political power and insatiable greed to amass public wealth. They really do not have any concrete and practical agenda for the Nigerian public. To this end, Nigerians should not be excited or get carried away by these dramas of defection.

Nigerians should know that it is the same set of people as Politicians, that are just ‘REVOLVING AROUND’ ONE SPOT IN THE COUNTRY’S POLITICAL SPACE, just to cheat the country at the end of the day. We are certain that Nigerians will see more of this drama of defection in weeks to come. But we urge that the Nigerian people should not be deceived by their trickery.
