The need to reject in it entirety the harassment of media workers and Human Rights Activists in their job of information dissemination was yesterday proclaimed by Edo Forum Against Impunity, EDOFAI, a Civil Society Organisation, based in Benin City on its special occasion to mark World International Day to end Impunity Against Media Workers and Activist in Edo State.
This was the focal point of the organisation in a press statement released by the President of the assemblage, Comrade Bevy K. Efe to address the deliberate act to limiting information dissemination across board.
Comrade Bevy noted that every brave Journalist, take extraordinary risk to bring to fore-world stories that exposes corruption and bearing witnesses to the dignity of innocent people suffering from war and societal verces; adding that, the press remains a critical foundation for prosperous, open, and secured society that allows citizens access to hold their government accountable to good governance.
According to him, “it is a great pleasure to welcome you all to this special events to mark 2015 International Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists, media workers, and human rights activists in the society. EDOFAI is pleased to join the rest of the world in celebrating today.
“On this International Day to end impunity, we command the priceless contributions of media workers, activists in ensuring access to information regarding government policies and programmes inspite of its harassment by security operations and other authorities.  We want to use this day to call on all levels of Government to protect the rights of journalists, media workers, and activists to write and speak freely”, he said
The EDOFAI Gaffer however harps on the need for collaboration between the stakeholders in delivering dividends of democracy to its citizenry.
